The participants lived in the area of Pier 41 in Red Hook. The Brooklyn season was the pioneer in many ways. For the first time, an openly transgender person took part in the show. There were also not seven but eight participants. It was also the first season for Brooklyn.

The success of the Brooklyn season was followed by a spin-off, The Real World: Brooklyn Reunion. It was broadcast on April 1, 2009. It described the life of the participants after the show.
The secret of success
The show first aired in 1992 on MTV. The first seasons were warmly received by critics and viewers. The show’s creators, Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray, were inspired by the 1973 documentary series An American Family. Film experts believe that it was The Real World that started all reality shows and not only in America. At the same time, it is the longest such show.
The show was loved by the audience because it touched on acute social topics, such as abortion, religion, sex, sexuality, AIDS, death, drugs and much more. The project demonstrated problems that teenagers face and that adults may not even know about. The Real World exposed what was hidden behind teenage problems.
However, it was difficult for the creators to reveal these issues. Soon the show began broadcasting the immature behavior of American teenagers. Many viewers were unhappy with what the show had become. Although, perhaps, this was not the project’s fault but the world’s. A society was full of debauchery and permissiveness. Despite the claims and dissatisfaction of the audience, the show continued. The final season of The Real World: Seattle was released in 2017.
The show’s path may be called tricky but its significance cannot be understated. Many believe that it started two other popular reality shows, namely Road Rules and The Challenge. In 2018, there was a rumor about a wish to revive it.
