There have been many unpleasant stories about Brooklyn. At one time, it was the most criminal borough in New York. Brooklyn was able to rehabilitate itself by developing creative places but remained a low-budget borough.
Brooklyn has appeared in many films and TV series at various times. One of the most popular is 2 Broke Girls. Read more about it on brooklynski.
Two girls and one trouble
The series 2 Broke Girls tells the story of two completely different characters. Max Black has always been poor. She knew how to survive in the harsh realities of the Big Apple and went through a troubled childhood. Caroline Channing, on the contrary, once belonged to the golden youth. She grew up in abundance and wealth. Then, due to a whim of fate, she had to learn about life in poverty. However, they were able to understand each other.
Reading the description of the series, one might think that it is strict and serious. However, it is not so. This is a fun, sarcastic and comedic series.
The first episode was released on September 19, 2011 on the CBS channel. The main producers were Warner Bros. Television. The creators of the series, Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cumming, settled their characters in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in a small apartment.

The highlight of the series was the difference between the characters and their friendship. Max and Caroline were different but they were united by a common goal. The girls wished to open a business for the production and sale of cupcakes.
Critics’ opinions were mixed. The relationship between the main characters caused a lot of positive reviews among critics and viewers. Otherwise, there was much controversy.
Humor on the edge
In addition to Max and Caroline, there were background characters in the series. Two of them were Oleg and Sophie. According to the plot, Sophie had Polish origin and Oleg was from Ukraine. He was the most ambiguous character. He was depicted as quite strange and lecherous. Against this background, there was a lot of racial humor in the project. That is why many critics and some viewers remained dissatisfied. In addition, the excessive sexualization of the characters also caused discontent among the public. During the time that the series was running, the world changed significantly. Things that were possible in 2011 became unacceptable in 2015.

However, the series was nominated 12 times for an Emmy Award. This was a good result for a comedy sitcom. In 2017, after the sixth season, the series was closed. A total of 138 episodes were released.
The series had a special feature. The main idea of the whole story was the goal of the girls to save money to start their own business. At the end of each episode, it was shown how much money they had already accumulated. They needed $250,000 and worked as waitresses in a cafe.
The girls managed to open their business ahead of schedule after they were lent money. Unfortunately, they burned out. This failure taught them that they should take the matter more seriously. The series shows not only the girls’ desire to develop in business but also their love adventures.
Throughout the story, the main theme remains business. The girls sometimes prosper and then suffer losses.

Unfortunately, the series was closed suddenly and there is no complete ending in it. The sixth season ended with the wedding of Max and another failure of Caroline. The screenwriters did not know that the series would be closed and did not bring all the storylines to a logical conclusion. That really upset the audience, who liked this couple.
Development and cast
The series 2 Broke Girls was a commercial project. CBS bought it in 2010 and in six months it was on the screens. It is undeniable that any series is created to obtain financial benefit. However, 2 Broke Girls was a commissioned project. Therefore, screenwriters used all kinds of tricks to attract the audience. After 2020, it is unlikely that such a project would be successful. After all, the world has changed and so have people’s views on racial humor and the sexualization of the male or female body.
Kat Dennings was the first to join the cast. She got the role of Max. Beth Behrs was cast as Caroline a week later. Then, all other actors were approved. Like other sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls was recorded in front of a live studio. The off-screen laughter was real. It reminded viewers of the 1990s and the zero years with Friends, Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother.

There were many reasons for the cancellation of the series. They included the desire of the studio to get its share, low ratings and lack of studio time. In fact, the moment when the series is closed due to new projects is a common situation. In the 80s, the TV series Alf was popular in America. It was canceled in season 4 because that time was needed for a new series. It was the same story with 2 Broke Girls.
The series gained popularity not only in the homeland. It was broadcast in Canada, Great Britain, Ukraine, Russia, Ireland, the Philippines and New Zealand.
Heavy criticism
The series was loved by the audience and became popular in many countries. However, the critics were merciless. The first season got only 59% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is very poor ratings. Still, the series was considered a positively received project.
Sexualized jokes and mocking of racial differences became fatal for the project. Some critics have openly talked about their disapproval of the show. They were offended by jokes. Other critics and comedians, on the contrary, found them witty and funny. Many have talked about the great potential of the show. Some hoped that it would still develop and become better. Unfortunately, the monotonous construction of the plot and the presentation of the characters killed the project. Therefore, the series was repeatedly included in the list of the worst TV series.
